Masking tape and Art paper to the rescue

Here is the solution to the issue of the remote not working when the tv is in 3D mode.
If this works please click on one of the adverts on my page, cheers.

1) Tape a piece of paper (sketch pad drawing paper) over the front of the box with masking tape and turn the TV 3D mode on. Now try the remote, if you can change channels your onto a winner, if not try a different type of paper. Remove the paper immediately as this is a fire risk.

2) by shining a torch on the front of the panel you should be able to make out an oval window in the black display. Now take some of the same paper you used before and loosely tape this over the front , making sure you don't cover any of the vents.  Now try the remote and it should work, if not make the paper larger.

Now you have a temporary fix that will allow you to control your dvr whilst you are watching 3D, however please be careful.

Disclaimer:
I take no responsibility for any damage that this fix might incur to you or any of your belongings or comcast DVR and also remember to take the paper off your DVR when you are not watching it, as i never trust paper and electrics.

But most importantly keep phoning up Comcast and get them to supply you with a fix they recommend.

Comcast try to fix the machine

I phoned comcast two week ago and complained, as normal an engineer came out to try and fix the problem.
Only one issue, however the engineer knew nothing of 3D, so i spent 1/2 hour teaching the tech.

The engineer now confused, phoned his manager to come and look at the problem, which he did, 1 hour latter. The manager then spent another hour going over the issue with his tech and swapping DVR for DVR, but all failed. At 1 o'clock the engineers left promising to phone me with information ASAP.

Following this i phoned the comcast helpline again and this time i was put in-touch with the 3d department who told me my tv is broken and that all comcast box's are compatible with 3D technology.

I then phoned Panasonic up , and guess what my TV is fine, the problem is due to old Motorola  IR technology and the modern active shutter technology and they advised me to phone back comcast and to demand to speak to a supervisor.

Taking his advice and speaking to the supervisors manager's manager and the lead tech for 3D i am told that only two makes of DVR are compatible with the Panasonic HD 3D and sadly for me they are not available for order, and only one type is in use in the Chicago area. Being the top rated company they , they........
wait  for it... gave me  $7 back to cover the cost of my DVR, Wow i was impressed. NOT!!!!!!!!!

Here are DVR's they say are compatible.

Cisco/ Scientific Atlanta RNG200 (HD/DVR set top box)

Motorola DCX3400 or DCX3416 (HD/DVR set top box)

However 5 mins after being pissed off with the rubbish service, i get a phone call back from Panasonic and they tell me of two solutions:

1) Place some IR filter tape over the sensor, this can be purchased from a photography store for about $10.
2) Move the DVR so that it is not under any part of the TV.

At last, customer service!

Cable Box Not responding

So now the box is not responding when the tv is in 3D mode.

To prove that this is the issue, try and change the channel on the dvr manually using the buttons on the front of the dvr.
If it changes channel then , the issue is with the active shutter technology interferring and masking the IR signal from the remote.

If you can't then its something else.

Comcast recommend

On their FAQ website comcast have the following question:
*******************************************************************************

Do I need a high-definition (HD) television to view 3D programming?

The 3D TV required to watch this broadcast is an HD television. Models from manufacturers include Sony 3DTV, Panasonic Full HD 3D TV and Samsung Full HD 3D TV. A standard HD television will not be able to display the 3D effects broadcast using this new technology. In addition to the 3D TV, every person watching
will need 3D glasses from the TV manufacturer

So wanting to watch their excellent 3D on demand material in 3D i purchased one of the televisions mentioned above for $2K with glasses.
All was going great until i decided to pause the on-demand whilst in 3D mode, and i could not!
A quick google search latter gave me no answers, but after learning about the 3d technology i came up with my own conclusion that the active shutter IR link to the glasses from the tv was interfering with the comcast Motorola IR remote. Now the problem was how i was going to prove it.
